Frequently asked

How do Paralives story cards work?

What are story cards in Paralives?
Story cards are Paralives' core narrative mechanic. The game offers your active Parafolk 3 cards from a hand at regular intervals (default 24 in-game hours). Each card has requirements (sometimes none), a description of what it does, and outcomes that fire when you pick it - cash bonuses, skill levels, romantic boosts, vacation days, instant items, status effects. Early Access build 1 ships 76 distinct cards.
What story card packs are available in Paralives?
13 pack types are defined in the game files, but only 5 have populated cards in Early Access build 1: Life Goals (28 cards, long-arc goals from the tutorial hand), Moon (17 cards, instant rewards and one-off lifts), Sun (16 cards, 24-hour temporary boosts), Work (10 cards, career-driven rewards), and Social (5 cards, group and relationship bonuses). The remaining packs (Heart, Black, Blood Moon, Death, Aurora Borealis, Town Evolution, NPC Story, Meta Storyteller) are defined but empty - placeholder slots for future updates.
What rarities can a Paralives story card have?
Three rarities exist: Common (54 of 76 cards, weight 12), Rare (16 cards, weight 4), and Legendary (6 cards, weight 1). The weight is the draw probability - a Common card is 12x more likely to be offered than a Legendary one when the deck rolls. Rarer cards usually carry bigger numbers ($2000 work bonus vs $500 tax return, multi-day boosts vs single-day) or unlock cards that require specific career milestones.
What is a storyteller in Paralives?
Storytellers are the run-wide settings you pick at game start. There are 3: Maxence (default pacing, 0.66 in-game minutes per real second, characters age, Blood Moon banned), Ricardo Castello III (Maxence's settings but Parafolk do not automatically eat or use the toilet at work, 0.2% passive pregnancy chance for a harder simulation), and Stella (sandbox flavour - $35,000 starting funds vs $30,000, no character ageing, Blood Moon banned). The storyteller also controls which card packs are banned from the deck and twin/triplet chances.
How often does Paralives offer a new story card?
By default the game offers a fresh hand of 3 cards every 24 in-game hours, between 20:00 and 05:00. You can also receive cards triggered by specific in-game actions (the Heart pack is reserved for storyteller-gifted hands). The 3-card hand draws weighted by pack and rarity: Sun and Moon packs are equally common, Life Goals appears via the tutorial hand and at milestones, and Legendary cards are 12x rarer than Commons.
