Emotions

Parafolk experience 11 distinct emotions that shape every aspect of daily life. Emotions drive autonomy decisions — influencing which activities a Parafolk will seek out without player input — and they unlock or restrict specific social interactions. Skill learning speed also responds to emotional state, meaning the right mood can accelerate progress in creative or intellectual pursuits.

The emotion system works in concert with the Vibe personality category, one of Paralives’ core personality systems. Parafolk with an Optimistic Vibe trait bounce back from negative emotions more quickly and spend more time in positive states overall. Status effects layer on top of Vibe traits, pushing and pulling emotional state in response to environmental conditions, relationship milestones, and unmet needs.

Emotions also interact with the Together Card system: certain cards are only available — or more likely to appear — when a Parafolk is in a specific emotional state. Managing emotions is therefore not just about comfort or wellbeing; it is a strategic consideration for players who want to unlock particular story outcomes or relationship milestones.
