What this mod adds
Adds a together card for your paras to ask their friends from other households to move in with them without requiring a romantic relationship first.
Updated June 2 to work slightly differently- see "step 2" in description!
New Together Card: Ask to move in (friendly)
The together card appears for paras who have a want to ask a friend to move in (both paras in the friendship need to be part of the social interaction). Requiring the want to be pre-selected helps avoid getting the together card as one of the 3 options when you do not want the move-in interaction. The want will appear on "inspired" status effects (instead of "flirty") and it w ill target paras with a Friend relationship label of 5 or higher.
Like with the romantic version from the unmodded game, there is a chance for the interaction not to succeed. Paras with high charisma stats or the same vibe will have a higher likelihood of agreeing to move in together on the first try. Having a "sloppy" lifestyle counts against their chance of success, but if one or both paras are "good at cooperating" they will probably get along pretty well.
How to Get
Step 1: Befriend
Currently, parafolks need a Friend relationship label of 5 or higher in order for the want to appear. I wanted it to be a low enough level requirement to be achievable without making stalking their future roommate your para's life mission, but also high enough so that a para with a lot of friends isn't spammed with wants to move in together. I am thinking of adding other ways to move in with a lower/no relationship requirement, so feel free to comment if you have ideas.
Step 2: Think about finding a roommate
NEW FROM CURRENT UPDATE
Select a mailbox (doesn't have to be your own mailbox!) and have your para "think about finding a roommate". This will give them a status effect, "Considering finding a roommate", that has a 12 hour duration. Selecting the mailbox interaction again refills the time on the status effect to 12 hours.
This status effect has no passive effect, it only enables your para getting the want to move in with an eligible friend if they have one. This provides greater player control over the parafolks' stories and reduces the spammed wants to move in that players didn't like (as the vanilla game currently has very few "inspired" wants).
Step 3: Get inspired!
Once your para has a high enough friend level and has thought about finding a roommate, the want to "ask to move in" with their friend should be offered on a "inspired" mood card (this mood doesn't need to have anything to do with the roommate)
Right now I think there are few enough "inspired" wants that I didn't have trouble getting the want to show up in testing. I was also "inspired" by how when a household is first played, the paras in it have an inspired status effect because they "just moved in". **UPDATE** due to people experiencing this want too often, the previous step ("think about finding a roommate" mailbox interaction) was added as an extra prerequisite to avoid want spam.
Too many good friends? The "random eligible target" the modded want currently selects might choose a different para than the one the player intends them to move in with. I think this is based on a daily random number seed your para gets, so each time the want comes up during a single day it will likely target the same para (unless the pool of eligible targets changes such as by having more eligible friends or already having moved in with the want target, then getting the want again the same day with a new target). I am working on addressing this edge case, but for now try going to bed and hoping to get the move-in target you wanted for your para the next day (and if they keep picking the same person, maybe it was just meant to be lol).
Step 4: Getting the together card
While your para has the want to move in (the want from the mod should say "because of your friendship" when you hover over it-- if you see "because of your lover" that is the flirty want from the regular game), have them start interacting with their wanted future roommate. The together card should now come up with a pretty high priority. (If it doesn't, this may be due to the 3 hour cooldown the game has for any one together card, so try waiting a little bit if you just failed the interaction or if you just fulfilled this want with another para.)
Step 5: Success?
Here are the factors influencing success/failure of the card:
• Base success chance of 20
• +5 per friendship level (should be minimum 25 from this unless you are triggering the interation with cheats or another mod)
• +3 per coworker level
• +10 charisma stat of 4+ (active para) (not tested)
• +15 same vibe OR both have the good at being alone social perk (doesn't stack if both are true)
• +10-15 good at cooperating social perk (this stacks so 10 if one para has it and 15 if both do)
• -10 sloppy lifestyle (active para)
• -10 enemies
Originally I wanted to give a bonus for matching lifestyles like vegetarian but it was taking too long for me to figure out so I replaced it with a penalty for being enemies lol. Most of these are copied from the basic flirt success chance; I just picked a few that made sense and added my own too with the sloppy lifestyle item.
Updates to the mod
This is my first ever mod. Please let me know if it doesn't work (or if it does). I hope it works and you like it! Thank you!
Update #1 (May 31): tweaked the together card success/failure chances
Update #2 (June 2): added an additional prerequisite before getting the inspired want to move in. Now, your para needs to do the additional step of "think about finding a roommate" (added as a new mailbox interaction) before being eligible to roll the want to move in.
Upcoming updates/ideas
For those who want a para-driven story where they have a chance to want to move in without the player manually directing them to the mailbox to "think about finding a roommate", I am open to ideas in the comments (especially since I don't want to suddenly add something that interrupts players' existing gameplay). So far I am considering:
• a story card (to automatically add the status effect and/or want)
• making the original want still happen without the status effect from the mailbox interaction, but having it be much rarer, either by requiring a friend level increase the previous day, having the friend level for spontaneous wants be much higher, and/or some kind of cooldown to prevent getting the same want too often.
